The Childbirth: A Unique Experience

Introduction to Childbirth

The birth of your child is a transformative experience and at Verloskundigen PuurBegin we are committed to your safety and well-being. Every birth is unique, which is why we provide personal guidance and support. Here's what to expect during labor.

The Start: Contractions and/or Broken Waters

Births often start with contractions, ranging from mild to intense. Sometimes the process begins with the rupture of the membranes, which is the starting signal for labor.

The Unlocking Phase: Towards Full Unlocking

The dilation phase is where the cervix opens completely to 10 centimeters. Contractions become stronger and more regular in this phase, and we support you throughout this period:

  • Irregular contractions in the beginning, later more regular.
  • In the case of a first birth, it usually takes longer to fully dilate than in subsequent births.

The Press Phase: The Moment of Birth

The pressing phase starts when 10 centimeters are fully dilated. We check whether the baby is ready for birth, and then you start pushing. This phase varies in duration.

Umbilical Cord and Placenta

We wait a while before cutting the umbilical cord after birth, and the placenta will then follow naturally.

When things go differently

We are prepared for different birth scenarios and have medical resources available. In emergency situations, we act decisively and work together with gynecologists.

Conclusion

We hope this information gives you more insight into what to expect during childbirth. Every birth is different and we are ready to guide you, regardless of how your birth process goes.
